My Switch to BRSK in Manchester

I wanted to share my actual experience getting BRSK installed because, like many, I was a bit nervous about the process. I can honestly say it was excellent from start to finish and so much less painful than other broadband providers I've used in the past.

The Installation

The engineer who came out was brilliant – really professional and happy to explain everything. In my case, the fibre cable came from a telegraph pole on the street. He neatly ran the cable from the pole to my house, creating a small, tidy connection point on the front wall. For safety, they have to drill a couple of small, temporary holes near the top of the wall to secure the ladder, but it's nothing major and they're very careful.

I was really impressed that I got a choice about where the router could go. I opted to have it installed upstairs in my office, which is pretty central in the house. The engineer agreed this was a great spot for giving the best Wi-Fi signal all over the house.

"The best part was that as soon as the installation was finished, I was online immediately. No waiting around for activation or endless phone calls."

The Router & Setup

They provide a small box that gets mounted to the wall where the fibre comes in, and then the router itself. You'll need two plug sockets free for the setup. The router they gave me is a TP-Link AX6000, which is a seriously good bit of kit (it's Wi-Fi 6 compatible). If you're tech-savvy, you'll love the amount of configurable options inside it, but if you're not, it works perfectly straight out of the box.

The Performance

I went for the 500Mbps symmetrical package (that's 500 up and 500 down), and it's been flawless. I live in a medium-sized house and get a strong Wi-Fi signal in every single room. We never get any buffering on the TV, even when streaming in 4K, and downloads are incredibly fast. It's just consistently brilliant.

What Other People Are Saying (By Region)

Greater Manchester & Lancashire

If you're in Manchester or Lancashire and fed up with your current provider (especially Virgin Media, I hear you!), you're in for a treat. People switching to BRSK are calling it a "painless improvement," especially with the rock-solid speeds. Once you're connected, you can expect to see speeds around 950 Mbps on a wired connection – it's the real deal.

"Honestly, it’s just a feeling of relief. The internet just works, and it's fast. No more dropouts during video calls."

Just a heads-up: The only real grumble I've seen is that the initial installation can be delayed if your property needs extra digging or ducting work. If your setup is straightforward, it's usually super quick.

West Yorkshire (Leeds, Bradford etc.)

People in Leeds, Bradford, and the surrounding towns are absolutely loving BRSK. For a lot of folks, it's the first time they've had access to proper full fibre, and they see it as a massive upgrade for the whole community. BRSK is investing heavily here, so you'll be seeing them around a lot more.

"Finally, internet that can keep up! The symmetrical speeds are a game-changer for working from home."

Even local MPs have given them a nod for expanding into places like Keighley and Bingley, which have been stuck with slow broadband for way too long.

The West Midlands (Birmingham)

Much like in Manchester, Brummies are switching to BRSK to escape the nightmare of unreliable internet from other providers. The value for money is a huge talking point – getting 900 Mbps speeds for the prices they're offering is practically a steal.

"It feels like we've finally got a decent choice for broadband in Birmingham. So far, it's been brilliant value and incredibly stable."

Once you're up and running, the service is consistently excellent, which seems to be the case no matter where they operate.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is BRSK really faster than Virgin or BT?

Yes, because BRSK uses a "full fibre" (FTTP) network, which brings a fibre optic cable right into your home. This is more advanced than the technology used by most BT resellers (which often use copper for the final stretch) or Virgin Media (which uses coaxial cable). The result is faster, more reliable speeds, especially for uploads.

What router do you get with BRSK?

For most plans (up to 1 Gbps), BRSK provides an Icotera i4850 router, which uses Wi-Fi 5. My install came with a TP-Link AX6000 (Wi-Fi 6), so it seems they provide excellent hardware. To get your absolute top speeds, a wired (Ethernet) connection is always best. If you go for their top-tier 2 Gbps package, you are guaranteed a powerful Wi-Fi 6 router.

What happens if my installation is complicated?

This is the main area where some people experience issues. If your home requires extra work like digging or fixing blocked underground ducts, delays can happen. While the engineers on the ground are great, communication from the support team during this waiting period can sometimes be slow. It's the biggest operational challenge for them as they grow so quickly.
